Russian Su-30 Crashes During Training Flight in Kaliningrad
Both pilots ejected safely from the multirole fighter during a routine mission in Russia's Baltic exclave.
What happened
A Russian Su-30SM fighter jet crashed in the Kaliningrad region on October 21 during a scheduled training flight, according to Russia's Defense Ministry. The two-member crew successfully ejected before impact and was evacuated by a ground search-and-rescue team. Russian media reports indicated both pilots sustained injuries and were transported to a military hospital, though the ministry stated their lives were not in danger.
The aircraft came down in an unpopulated area of the Chernyakhovsk district, between the settlements of Timofeevka and Zeleny Bor, near a cemetery. The ministry confirmed the jet was unarmed and conducting a routine training mission. The cause of the crash has not been officially announced, though eyewitness video circulating online showed a large fireball and thick column of smoke at the site.
